Internet Explorer quit running flash player

All of a sudden Internet explorer won't run flash
animations and shows only the little 3 color box in
certain graphics areas. i tried everything on the
Microsoft and macromedia websites from reinstalling
explorer, taking files out, uninstalling and trying to
reinstall Flash player. I can't even download and run the
install from macromedia but had to download and run it
from my computer. The Opera browser runs flash just
fine. Any ideas?
