Internet Explorer pops up at start

Hi all,

Normally, when I started the computer, the desktop with the various program
icons showed. For about two weeks now, the Internet Explorer window has been
popping up automatically after the computer is started with a messge that it
cannot connect to the Internet (I use AOL 9.0 with a dial up connection).

I do not know if the windows registry (Windows XP home edition) has been
modified by some spyware or it is just a Windows error. I scanned the computer
with AdAware, Spybot and Norton, and everything looks clean.

How to prevent IE from starting automatically at start up?

Thanks for any input!

Start>Run

Type msconfig

In the Startup tab, see if there's anything there that you spontaneously
ask for Internet connections, like diallers or other crapware.
