I have recently installed a few shareware programs on my
Windows XP PC and then started experiencing some strange
things. When my computer is idle for a while Internet
explorer opens and attempts to go to a porn site. It goes
to a different site each time and is becoming a bit
anonying to say the least. Our company proxy server
blocks access to these sites but it does acknowledge the
attempt.

I have since then remove all shareware programs from my
computer and also updated my anti-virus programs etc. I
have scanned for viruses but none was found. I have also
updated windows with all the latest security patches but
still cannot get rid of this bug!

Can someone please help me remove this from my system.

Thanks.

Anti-virus programs will not get rid of spyware or hijacking type programs
like this since they are not virus related.

Suggest you get one or both of the following free programs and run them on a
regular basis.

AdAware

Spybot
http://security.kolla.de/

Sound like spyware. Run either or both of the following
anti-spyware programs regularly:

AdAware: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/

Spybot Search and Destroy: http://security.kolla.de/

Greetings --

To deal with issues caused by any sort of "adware" and/or
"spyware,"such as Gator, Comet Cursors, Xupiter, Bonzai Buddy, or
KaZaA, and their remnants, that you've deliberately (but without
understanding the consequences) installed, two products that are
quite effective (at finding and removing this type of scumware) are
Ad-Aware from www.lavasoft.de and SpyBot Search & Destroy from
http://security.kolla.de/. Both have free versions. It's even
possible to use SpyBot Search & Destroy to "immunize" your system
against most future intrusions. I use both and generally perform
manual scans every week or so to clean out cookies, etc.
