Internet Explorer Plug-Ins

N

Neil

I recently learned about and finally removed
some "parasites" from Internet Explorer 6. I thought my
browser was "clean", but I found another "plug-in" (Clear
Search) which launches its own search when mine fails.

The question on my mind is "Are there any other "Plug-Ins"
that I don't know about?

How can I determine what plug-ins are currently attached
to my browser? I'm not squeamish about messing with the
registry, if necessary (Win98 SE).

Thank you,

Neil

Hi Neil,

The internet Explorer BHO -plugins list is stored in this part of the
registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browse
r Helper Objects

To view the related applications, copy the CLSID of the applications and
find the corresponding entry in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT using find option.

Another options is to use BHODaemon or BHOCOP which lists all the plugins
for you.

To elminate the malware/spyware products, use ad-aware instead of manual
registry edit. Visit www.lavasoftusa.com and download Ad-Aware. It cleans
the spyware/BHO toolbar & search bars.

But it may be a new variant.
Go to http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads.php#det
Download "Hijack This!" [freeware] or download direct (below):
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/hijackthis.zip

Unzip, double-click "HijackThis.exe" and Press "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log"
button.
Click: "Save Log" (generates "hijackthis.log")

Next, HijackThis | Config [button] | Misc Tools [button]
Click: Generate StartupList log [button] (generates "startuplist.txt")

Next, go to the below location:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/forums/

Sign in, then copy and paste both files in your message.
