Internet Explorer not responding after failed update

On XP SP2, update failed last night. I just kept going and going for the
longest time, finally ending with an error message. Now Internet Explorer
won't respond at all! This happened on two PCs. Both failed update, neither
can reach the Internet now. Help!

An Update always creates a Restore Point. Start/all
programs/accessories/systen tools/system restore.
