Internet Explorer Loads Blank

When I double click on Internet Explorer after a short wait it loads a blank(white) screen. Even when I try to refresh it, it still remains blank. When I try to update my computer with Windows Update, the update stops responding. Also, some document folders, and My Computer also stops responding when I try to open a document or file within. Does anyone have a remedy
