Internet Explorer freezing/closing

I have been trying to fix this problem forever - I hope
someone can help. I will give an example, it is easier to
explain that way. I open IE and choose for example
www.symantec.com to get to their website. Then I choose the
symantec security check at the bottom of their home page.
When I click on that link IE opens a second window with a
different name as well as the original window showing
Symantec. When that second window opens, IE freezes
completely, I get an error message and IE closes after
about five seconds. I am running Windows XP and I have
tried everything that I can find online regarding this. I
also have Tweak XP on my machine but I don't know if that
has anything to do with it. Someone asked my if I had
something to combat aggressive pop ups but I don't know
enough about this problem to know if it ties into this
issue. It is a hard problem to explain and I am finding
more and more web sites that require IE instead of Netscape
which is the browser I finally switched to out of pure
frustration. I appreciate any and all help and ideas that
you may be able to give me - I have been troubleshooting
this issue off and on for the past year or so.

You may want to check if this is caused by a parasite.
IE 6.

Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

If this clears your problem then find out who the culprit(s) is/are with
these tools.

Let AD-Aware Scan your system for advertising Spyware
http://www.lavasoftusa.com

and:

SpyBot-S&D
http://security.kolla.de/

p.s Reset the 3rd party browser setting.

More: This may be caused by a third-party program (adware, spyware,
parasite).
Get AdAware and SpyBot and run them both. Keep them up to date.

I have tried all of these and I still have the same
problem. I changed the third party browser, downloaded and
ran Spybot and Ad-Aware and still cannot get IE to run
properly. Another way I am testing this error to see if it
is working correctly is by going to MSN games, choosing the
free online games and then choosing one of the games, I
doesn't seem to matter which one I choose. When I choose a
game to play online it tries to open a second window and
then locks up, says sorry for the inconvience and of course
the only option is OK which closes IE. Any other
suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I figure if I
work on this enough then one day I will actually get to use
IE as my default browser which would be wonderful.

Thank you again.
