Internet Explorer Favorites - Links

How can I get my favorites and links to open in a separate
page or window without them opening on the existing page i
am viewing?

Try this:

From the IE menu, click on Tools | Internet Options | Advanced [tab]. Under
Browsing, scroll down to "Reuse Windows for launching shortcuts", deselect it
(clear check with mouse cursor), then click on the Apply and OK buttons.
