when i close internet explorer it allows comes up with an error afterwards
saying that it need to close bla bla bla. its seems internet explorer works
fine except when i try using the drop down menu for web addresses it stops
responding and i have to end the program. can anyone help as i'm all outta
ideas.

Thanks

If the error occurs when closing IE, then it may be related to the TIF.
(Temporary Internet Files, cache) I would probably purge the cache.
Also if you use Broadband, set IE to empty the cache when closing IE.
Very little reason to maintain cached data. IE by default sets the cache
size way to high. Most times the cache should be 15-25 Megabytes.

Occasionally, you should log into another account and do a complete
cleanup of your profiles TIF (sub-folders and the Index.Dat module).
C:\Documents & Settings\'YourName'\Local Settings\Temporary Internet
Files
*Requires that Explorer is set to show all files/folders

First eliminate any spyware.

Good advice, but not easy to find the option!

Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced -> Security ->
Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed.

In Mozilla it's not natively available but is an option within the
Multizilla add-on.

I got lazy, maybe I should build up some "Canned Responses" but I
prefer to take time to answer posts in Real-Time. Thanks for filling
in the details. I thought about recommending CCleaner, but since I
don't personally use it, I decided against it.

Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed

This setting does *not* empty all of the Temporary Internet Files folder.

This setting deletes the content of %homepath%\Local Settings\Temporary
Internet Files but *not* the Content.IE5 or Content.MSO folders.

To delete *all* Temporary Internet Files...

1) Start | Run | Type: inetcpl.cpl | OK
Or right click the Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop.
Or: Start | Settings | Control Panel | Internet Options.
Best to do this with all instances of Internet Explorer closed. Especially
if there are a large number of files.
2) On the General Tab, in the middle of the screen, click on Delete Files
3) Check the box Delete all offline content {This cleans >>
%homepath%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
AND
%homepath%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5
and \Content.MSO (Created by an MS Office program)}
4) Click on OK and wait for the hourglass icon to stop after it deletes the
temporary internet files
5) You can now click on Delete Cookies and click OK to delete cookies that
websites have placed on your hard drive.
