internet explorer download hangup

this problem has started recently. evertime i try to
download anything with internet explorer, the download
will start and then after a few seconds, progress will
ust stop and won't continue. I'm using cable and have no
trouble with my connection, and other browsers seem to
work ok, the problem is specifically limited to IE6. If
anyone has any thoughts on how to fix it or at least
where the problem might be stemming from, I'd really
appreciate some help.
