My grandaughter can get on line thru a dedicated website but not Internet Explorer. It just say s "page not available"
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

I'd appreciate hearing any feedback you might get. I'm experiencing the identical problem. Only able to access the web through AOL. It's a first for me and all I can wonder is if I deleted some necessary file. I also have lost some files (games like Solitaire, Pinball, Minesweeper, etc. -- the freebies on WinXP)... it's too strange. I've posted this question, same as yours, on 3 different newsgroups. If I get an answer and/or a fix, I'll let you know - please do the same. (e-mail address removed)

(Sorry; pressed Send accidentally before finishing message.)

WinXP; IE6

Same problem: IE won't bring up any websites 9 times out of 10 (or worse).
Always: "This page cannot be displayed." AOL (which is IE-based, right?) still
works fine.

The onset of this problem seems to correspond to an automatic Windows update,
specifically: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1
(KB832894), which took place 4 days ago. That's the only thing that's changed
on my computer (that I know of).

(1) Anyone else having problems since this update?
(2) This KB number doesn't appear in the Add or Remove Programs control panel,
so I guess it cannot be undone?

Thanks.

Jay

My earlier post re the potential cause being the automatically installed
WindowsXP update hasn't appeared yet, but I'll update that post anyway (without
quoting it):

After logging off the Newsgroup and AOL, I realized that I probably never
rebooted after that automatic update several days ago. I just rebooted my
computer and have had no problems getting IE to access sites after numerous
trial runs.

So, maybe it was (a) that I needed to reboot after the automatic update or (b)
that I needed to reboot anyway due to a cluttered system(??).

Hope this might be of some help.

Jay
