I have a Dell 8200 Inspiron with windows XP and SP2. Recently when I type an
address in the browser I get and the usual error message (page cannot be
displayed), however I can connet to some sites such as the BBC (default hme
page)and google. If I try to visit a web page from google I am able to view
the page but if I type the URL in the brower I again get an error message.
Can you please help me fix this. I have the following spy ware and
anti-virus programs running:
MS Antispyware (I ran it last night and found no spyware)
AD Aware by Lavasoft
Avast Anti Virus (I ran this a couple of days ago and found no viruses)
Zone Alarm Pro.

Some times I need to shut down Zone Alarm for certain sites to work. I have
done this but the problem persists.

I have had these programs for a long time and my internet has been running
fine till yesterday. Appreciate any help..

If you have updated IE, then a repair option becomes available if you click
on the IE reference in Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. Running that
if it's available, might fix the problem.

Otherwise, try using an alternative browser, such as Firefox, from
http://www.mozilla.org/.

You can install an extension that allows you to use IE from within Firefox.
