Internet Explorer Cache

I have reinstalled WinXP Pro SP2 on a conputer. I am having the same
problem that initiated the reinstall: Downloads are impossiable.
This problem started when IE7 was installed.
Under Internet Options in Control Panel, it is impossiable to change
the internet cache options. The disk space usage is set to zero. Upon
attempt to change this, I am prompted to choose a number between 8 and 8.
Any input, including 8, is refused and met with the message of choosing
between 8 and 8. Trying to move the folder causes the message that there is
not enough space on the disk. (Drive C = 6.53GB free, Drive D = 43.4GB free.
The folder is approx 14MB in size, with 374 files in 14 folders. For some
reason, WinXP has protected this folder so that its attributes cannot be
changed, nor can its contents be viewed or modified.
Any attempted changes are refused or truncated. Are there any registry
keys that are responsible for this behavior? I have searched through the
registry, but have only found references to the folder location.
I have created another profile that is NOT having this problem. I
would like to continue to use the first profile to avoid having to
reconfigure all of my settings.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

maybe uninstalling the
ie "windows component"
from a/r programs might be
something you should try -
it wouldn't hurt in anycase.

then repairing the registry
to remove the all the keys
from the ie component and
your ie7.

then you should try reinstalling
everything again.

maybe the above might help.
if not then you can try the
internetexplorer newsgroup.
