Internet explorer 6 setup

I have downloaded the latest internet explorer to replace a
faulty installation by my isp. I try to run the setup
program, and get a message saying that my proxy server
settings were incompatible and cannot connect to the
download sites. I do not run a proxy server, so this
should not be an issue. Can anyone offer any suggestions?

In IE click Tools, Internet Options, Connection tab then LAN settings and
see if proxy server is set.
