internet disconnects evrytime I try 2 send e-mail

Every time I try to send an e-mail in Microsoft Outlook, the internet
disconnects without warning and I get a message sating that the message was
not sent due to a disconnection.I have a windows XP -and I would like to send
e-mails sometime soon.Can anyone help?

More info might help us to help you....

Is Windows fully patched? SP2 and all critical updates?
Is your firewall enabled?
What kind of Internet connection do you use?
Do you have good, current, antivirus software? Have you *disabled* its
e-mail scanning feature as a test?
What version & SP level of MS Outlook, and what kind of e-mail account?
Does this happen at any other time?
