Internet disconnects after visiting some web pages

Mike

I have an IBM Thinkpad T41 with Windows XP Pro, up to
date, IE6.

Recently (within the last few weeks), my internet
connection will cut out after visiting certain web
pages. These pages are random and I don't know why they
are causing this problem. Friendster.com is the only
site that has pages that consistently end my connection.

After I visit one of these "offending" web pages, I
cannot chat or browse any regular web pages, BUT I am
able to:

Visit secure web pages (https://www.mybank.com)
Ping any outside address or IP

If I restart my computer, everything is OK again.

I have run Spybot and AdAware, and neither of them found
anything other than the regular IE cookies.

Please help, this is very frustrating!

Also on another (possibly related) note, my computer
often cannot shut down; it gets stuck on the "logging off
user" screen. I tried the fix as recommended in the
Knowledge Base (updating Norton Liveupdate) but it didn't
help.

Thanks so much in advance.

Mike
