i have an ADSL connection which i have in my startup
folder so that it automatically connects. however if i
enter hibernation when i resume from hibernation the
connection is lost.

how can i automatically remain on-line all the time? what
happens during resume from hibernation.

Try disabling power saving features for the network card in the
Properties. You can find the setting in the Device Manager under the
network card for the DSL connection.
