Cinio,

Can you check email from the Main computer (what service - does it use a web
client?)?

Do you perchance have PPPoE internet service?
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=319661
http://adsl.cutw.net/mtu.html
http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/article04-107

From the Client:
From a command window:
1) Ping www.hotmail.com.
2) Ping 207.68.171.233.
Report success / exact text of error messages.

From your browser:
3) Browse www.hotmail.com.
4) Browse 207.68.171.233.
Report success / exact text of error messages.

Cheers,
Chuck

Yes. I can get my emails on the main machine (it is a local Swiss service -
bluewin.ch, it does not use a web client)

I don't know. How can I check it?

From the Client:
From a command window:
1) Ping www.hotmail.com.
2) Ping 207.68.171.233.
Report success / exact text of error messages.

for 1) and 2) the same: Request timed out.
Sent: 4, Recieved 0, Lost = 4

for the local google page google.ch (I am located in Switzerland):
Request timed out
Reply from 64.233.161.104: bytes=32 time=100ms TTL=243
Reply from 64.233.161.104: bytes=32 time=100ms TTL=243
Reply from 64.233.161.104: bytes=32 time=100ms TTL=243
Sent: 4, Recieved 3, Lost = 1
Approximate round trip time in milli-seconds
minimun = 100ms, MAximum = 102ms Average = 101ms

From your browser:
3) Browse www.hotmail.com.
4) Browse 207.68.171.233.
Report success / exact text of error messages.

for 3) and 4) the same:
- in the status bar of IE: Opening page http://login.... for 10-15min and
at the end empty page
(the google page opens after 15s)

any idea how to fix it?

Chuck

I found out that pinging ends successfully at 1270 and I edited so the
registry. Now the connection doesn't work at all - no Internet.

I checked again the pinging - it looks it works at 1490 now (sic!).

any ideas how to fix it?

Is it maybe about something with ipconfig? Is it ok that I have so many IP

Cinio,

IIWY, I'd start by getting rid of IPV6 (aka Teredo Tunneling). At least til
you're satisfied that everything else works.

IPV6 is in our future, but if it causes problems for our present internet
access, GET RID OF IT.

Under my Local Area Connection Properties, I have listed:
Client for Microsoft Networks
File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks
QoS Packet Scheduler (this one is optional)
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

Look in your list. If you see "IPV6", or "Advanced Networking", un install it.
Then rerun "ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt" and post contents.

Cheers,
Chuck

on client I've got:
- Client for Microsoft Networks
- Service Advertising Protocol
- File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks
- QoS Packet Scheduler
- NWLink NetBIOS
- NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS Compatible Transport Protocol
- Micorsoft TCP/IP version 6
- Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

as rocommended I left:
- Client for Microsoft Networks
- File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks
- QoS Packet Scheduler
- Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

The new results (the client):

Windows IP Configuration

Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : cinio
Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :
Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown
IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No

Ethernet adapter docking station:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : 3Com 3C920 Integrated Fast
Ethernet Controller (3C905C-TX Compatible)
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-B0-D0-6A-EB-3A
Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.2
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 198.6.1.2

I GOT MY INTERNET BACK. The Outlook checks emails very slowly - is it
because I change the MTU to 1270? Should I undo this setting in the registry?

On the host I have on both conenctions (Internet and to the client) except
your 4 the following:
- Deterministic Network Enhancer
- Micorsoft IPv6 Developer Edition
- Network Editor Driver
Should I uninstall them too?

I appraciate your support.

Cinio,

That's great news!

Get rid of those extra items on the host too please.
