Heya everyone I am a noob when it comes to pc stuff but I
am learning.I recently purchased a Dell pc with a radeon
9800 vid card. I also recently purchased Halo. Now when I
am playing the game I am getting a little flashing box on
lower right which looks like a telephone connection
junction and I am stuck. Cannot move or do anything. Then
I will lose my internet connection which is 56k as I live
on a acreage without access to cable or high speed dialup
and such. Can anyone out there help me with this problem
as dell hasnt a clue how to sort it out and I am getting
frustrated as I spend all this money and it wont work the
way I would like it to. I have disabled my norton auto
protect and the xp firewall that came with
the system remember that I am a noob at this so please
keep it simple and I would greatly appreciate if someone
would help me out.

Hi Audy,

When you get to the Multiplayer menu in Halo where it lists
all the servers, click the FILTER button, and chose ping <50.
Afterwards, when you play, always chose the servers with
the least amount of players. Those two steps will go a long
way to decrease the amount of lag you've been experiencing.

Well playing Helo on dialup your going to have to choose servers with about
4 people in them 8 is probably max. I play on dialup and playing in a 4
person server has the least amount of lag for me. Your going to have to be
on broadband to play on servers with a lot of people.

Also make sure you close all open apps such as IM etc use
a program such as End It which will close everything
automaticly.

You can try some optimisations for your modem from one of
the modem sites which may help.

Dont know Halo but if it has a system options use it and
set it for the lowest settings possible such as a 680 by
480 screen etc.

Try differant servers some may be set up for dial up most
wont.
