Internet connection problems

I can't connect to the Internet with IE (latest version on XP Pro) .
Funny thing is Outlook Express works perfectly and so does FireFox.

But for some reason IE just won't connect. It stays there for minutes just
burning rubber.
I ran sfc /scannow and that didn't do anything.

What are some other things I should do to figure this out?

Please state error messages if any, what actions have been done, what
results, what is the screen displaying? what version of IE, and what if any
changes have been recently to the system?

No changes at all to the system.
The only actions I did was to disable both Norton and Zone Alarm to try to
see if that was in anyway blocking and I ran the sfc /scannow scan. Nothing
happened.

I never get any error messages and never get that blank IE can't connect
screen either.
It just keeps spinning its wheels never connecting. Under normal
circumstances I would have gotten that no internet connection shortly after
launching it. However I never get that no matter how long I leave it.
Opera can not connect either but Firefox is connecting with no problems.

I would think the issue would lay with your IP configuration, within ie.
I don't use Firefox, so I have no idea as to how to display ip
configuration, but check within all three programs and see if there are any
differences.
