Internet connection problems with Windows XP

Hello,

I'm currently experiencing problems accessing the internet through my home
PC. It was working fine yesterday until I installed Windows Defender.
Shortly thereafter, I kept experiencing problems so I removed the program
from my PC. Following that, I lost the ability to connect to the internet.
I called my ISP provider thinking there was a problem with their end of
things but according to them I was connected. Just to check, I disconnected
my PC and connected my laptop and had no problem checking emails and
accessing the internet. Obviously, I've done something to my PC. I've tried
a system restore and I've tried a winsockfix application and still nothing.
When I check my network connections, everything seems in order.

I'd love to know if anyone else has any ideas?

What happens when you try to access the internet?
Can you please write what happens when you open IE and try to open some page.
thx
