internet connection not found

When I try "Check for Updates" I get the
message "Warning - could not connect to the internet" - I
have a high speed connection that is always connected -
what do I need to do to make this program find the
connection?
 
Also, ensure that your web browser (Internet Explorer) is
on line. Open IE, click File and ensure that Work Off line
is not checked.
