Internet Connection manager ?

Hi!

I wonder if Win XP Pro has (or if there generally is) some tool that
shows you which sites/servers is your modem connecting to @ the
moment? For example when I don't use the internet but I am still
connected (thrugh dialup), my 56k modem sometimes sends or receives
something from the web and I don't know what it is. So my question is,
how can I detect the sites / servers which it connects to.

I think you are mixing two things. If you are 'still connected through
dialup' you are connected to your ISP and hence to the internet. Data
flows there might be software looking for an auto-update, things like
Messenger checking status of your contacts, or parasites of one sort or
another getting in on the act. For that I suggest a read of Richard
Harpers advice page at http://rgharper.mvps.org/cleanit.htm

If you have disconnected from the ISP and yet the modem is dialling out
you definitely have an infestation of such hijackware. Spybot is
probably the best of the tools to start with, but see Richard's page.

You can probably find the phone number dialled by looking with Notepad
at the modem's log; Modem<Makeandtype>log.txt in the Windows folder.
Look for pairs of lines like
09-08-2004 15:35:52.437 - Send: ATDT###########<cr>
09-08-2004 15:35:52.468 - Recv: ATDT08450796699<cr>

Which resulted from calling the phone number 08450796699 - a legitimate
ISP in that case
