Internet Connection Icon (connectoid)

I have an ADSL router/firewall which connects to my ISP. This occasionally
goes down. Up to now I had an Internet Connection Icon in "Network
Connections" which I could click on to reconnect the ADSL router. This has
vanished and all attempts to get it back have failed. I also note that out of
three XP boxes on the same network only one ever had this icon.
I have tried all "825826" fixes which bring back the annoying dissapearances
of Network Connections but they don't fix the Internet Connection.
The machine is quite happy to connect to the internet but now I have to
power cycle the router when external the connection goes down. This isn't
very clever. Can anyone help please.

Oh dear what an idiot.....
This is a feature of the router not the PC. I had disabled UPnP on the
router forgetting why I had enabled it some time ago. Enable it again and the
Internet Gateway in Network Connections is back. Ah me some solutions are
simpler than others....:)
