Internet connection disappears from Control Panel

When I connect to the Internet through my Dial-up, my
Internet connection disappears from the Control Panel's
Network Connections list. The Internet connection that
is disappeared from the Control Panel is still visible
under Internet Explorer's Connections options. I can
create a new Internet connection via the Control Panel
wizard but when I connect with it the first time, it
disappears from the Network Connections list. The icon
in the system tray that is supposed to be display once
connected is also not appearing when I'm connected.
Also, the notification saying that you are connected to
the Internet does not appear once I'm connected. Can
someone help me?

I have the exact same problem, connections disappear from
networks connections folder and system tray icon does not
appear but the connection still shows under IE Connections!

Any ideas?

First make sure that your Network Connections Service and Remote Access
Connection Manager services are running. If they are then compare the LAN
connections in the connections folder with the Network Adapter drivers in
device manager. If there is a Network Adapter driver that doesn't have a
corresponding connection in the connections folder then try reinstalling it.

I have a similar problem. Just upgraded a WinMe machine to WinXP Prof SP1. Everything works perfectly except for the Linksys WUSB11, USB wireless adapter. (worked previously under WinME). After installing XP, the adapter did not work, so I removed the adapter software and drivers from the machine and reinstalled from scratch. The adapter appears under Device Manager, but does not appear under Network Connections, nor does a connection icon appear on the system tray. I've already spoken to Linksys. They say the adapter is ok, but apparently problem is XP. Any ideas greatly appreciated.
