I can not connect to the internet. Commcasst said it was
not thier fault. They said it was a problem with winsock
and that I need to reinstall winsock. Does this sound
right?

Yes that is a definite possibility but in my opinion
if Comcast suspected winsock corruption then they
should have directed you to possible remedies.
If your Winsock registry keys have been damaged,
there is a very strong possibility that it was caused
by spyware or a broken third-party firewall program.
Check out this article to determine if your Winsock
keys have been corrupted and then try the procedure
for repairing them. Note however that if you do have a
spyware problem, then they should be removed first
or they will just infect the newly created Winsock keys
and you will be right back at square one again.
