so i guess you're saying that you're not worried about error message?
Rather you are concerned with internet connections?

have you checked device manager for modem and wireless connection?
have you checked network connections?
have you tried to query modem via device manager?
did you reinstall drivers for both?
Is modem internal or PCI card or are either usb devices?
what is model and make of laptop?

You might want to try the following in order to restore your
internet connection:

Download and run the first program listed here. If it doesn't
correct the problem, try the second program:

WinSock XP Fix 1.2
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html

LSPFix 1.0
http://www.spychecker.com/program/lspfix.html

When you reinstalled XP did you do a clean installation which
included formatting the hard drive or just a repair
installation which leaves your files and applications intact?
If you did a clean install, did you make sure that you
installed updated XP drivers for all your hardware? Did you
look in Device Manager to make sure there are no problems? How
about Network Connections? Both wired and wireless connections
present?

As for the error message you're getting about "missing
stlbdist.dll", did you look in the registry for any entries
relating to that "browser aid spyware stuff"? You should have
found entries in the
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run key that
need to be deleted. That's why you're seeing that error
message. The spyware was removed but the registry entry was
left behind. Here's an article that outlines the procedure:

http://www.doxdesk.com/parasite/BrowserAid.html

If you're still getting an error message about stlbdist.dll
then you probably did a repair install. You're computer could
still be infected. Either perform a clean install or do the
following:

Make sure your antivirus program is up-to-date and run a scan.
You should also run a scan with AdAware and Spybot S & D.

AdAware
http://www.spychecker.com/program/adaware.html

Spybot S & D
http://www.spychecker.com/program/spybot.html

Next, you might want to visit some of the online virus scanners
and see what they find:

Run both the AntiVirus and the AntiSpyware scan on this site:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Click on the "Scan your PC button" while holding down the CTRL
key (to override any popup stoppers):
http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm

McAfee FreeScan

Symantec Security Check

Finally, go to this web site and download HijackThis:

HijackThis 1.99.1

Run the program and save the log. There are a number of web
sites where HijackThis logs should be posted. Here are some of
the more popular ones:
