Internet Access Question for Police Department

T

Theodore Frank

I work for a local police department. We just got a new computer
running Microsoft Windows XP and we are not connected to a domain
(standalone computer connected to the internet). There are two users:
Administrator and User. I would like the "Administrator" account to
have full access to the internet and I would like to either disable
internet access or restrict internet access on the "User" account. Is
this possible? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

simple answer would be give them no access to iexplore.exe.

Log on to the appropriate user's desktop and click Start, Run and enter
REGEDIT Go to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions

Right click in the right pane and select New, DWord value. Name the new
value NoBrowserOptions. Double click this new setting and change its value
to 1. This will disable Internet Options completely for that user. To make
these changes without having to log on to the user's account, see
www.dougknox.com, Win XP Tips, Advanced Registry Editing.

You could configure a proxy for them in Iexplore using the internet
explorer admin kit and make the proxy bogus.

Make sure they do not have access to regedit so they cannot change the
settings
