I set up a DNS server for company internal use. I added a
new zone called domain.com. mail.domain.com point to
internal IP 172.17.1.2. But when I ping mail.domain.com,
the reply IP is always a public IP. How can I have
mail.domain.com point to my intternal IP?

Thanks in advance!

Are all computers (servers and workstations) pointing only to your internal
DNS server's IP address in their IP configs? Don't put any external ones
there...use forwarders to your ISP's DNS servers and/or use root hints for
external resolution, on your DNS server properties itself.
