Intermittent Lost of Network connectivity

Hi,

Sorry, if this question has been posted before. I have a WinXP Pro machine
connected to a Win 2k Server, for some time the following problem occurs.
Every time the Win XP Pro computer logins to the server :
1) It takes a long time to authenticate.
- Have entered the server IP addr as part fo the DNS, still does not
help. Also, entered the server IP in the hosts file as well but still the
same. This computer is on DHCP
2) This computer looses either Internet or Printer connections or both after
awhile. But the problem is intermittent. When this happens, I would normally
" REPAIR" the connection and everything will be back to normal again. Have
even turn off the option of "Auto.. turn off" for the network card.

As I cannot keep reparing the network all time, is there a way to solve the
2 mentioned problems?

Appreciate any help or suggestions. Thanks-in -advanced.

Erika,

If you have Windows XP clients on a domain, the domain needs to be setup
properly.

What do you mean by "Have entered the server IP addr as part fo the DNS"? Your
clients have to point to a domain DNS server, so the DNS server can identify the
domain controller. If the domain DNS server isn't servicing requests, and the
backup DNS server address is used, what server does it point to?

DNS is a critical service for Windows XP; if it isn't working right and legacy
NetBIOS broadcasts are used, your symptoms are normal. If you want to provide a
backup DNS server address, it HAS to be one of your servers, so it can point to
the domain controller.
