Intermittent DNS error after spyware removal

Hi All

Recently I installed MS Antispyware and it removed couple of spyware from my
machine. However since last 2 days I am getting strange behaviour when I
visit sites in IE. Most of the time I get page cannot be displayed, DNS
Server error. However if I do a refresh or click the go button then the page
comes up. Sometime I have to do 2-3 times the refresh before page comes up.
Sometimes the page comes up but the graphics do not show up. I have dne the
following to clean up my system but with no luck:

1. Cleaned the winsock using both netsh command and winsockxpfix.
2. Did LSPFix.
3. resett the TCP/IP stack using netsh resett command.
4. Reinstalled TCP/IP protocol again after deleting the winsock registry
setting.
5. Tried to do system restore but looks like since I did lot of the above
step the system is complaing that it cannot restore to the dates I am
choosing. I have tried several dates before I installed theAnti-spyware but
the system will not restore.
6. I have run virus-scan and no virus. also no spyware detected.
7. Deleted all cookies and temporary files

My machine is running WinXP SP-2 and IE6 SP-1.

Any advice how to go about resolving this issue without reinstall.

Thanks
Ravi

Hi ravi :)

Try the following and see if it helps:

Can not display page Server or DNS error or "Internet Explorer could not
open the search page" / unable to view web pages

LSP and Winsock Fixes

Removal of some types of spyware can damage the Winsock keys in the
Registry. Spywares use the Layered Service Providers (LSP), small software
items added or inserted into the Winsocks. Data that is outward bound from
your computer to a legitimate destination on the Internet can be intercepted
by an LSP and sent other than intended. To correct the damage and repair
the IE connection download and run the programs below:

http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
(if your OS is Win2k or XP) The process of removing certain malware may kill
your internet connection. If this should occur, this program, LSPFIX, will
enable you to regain your connection.

hi

Did you ever find a solution that worked to your problem? I have seen so
many other people with this problem on this newsgroup (it seems to be by FAR
the most commonly reported issue on this newsgroup) but as yet I havent seen
anyone say it fixed there problem. My suspicion is that most people are
giving up and reinstallking their entire operating system as the only option.

Do let me know. I want to raise the profile of this issue, as I dont believe
Microsoft are proving a proper resoltuion for all the damaged IE6 users
damaged by the numerous vuilnerablilities that they've at least admitted to .

Do post back and let me know?

Kind Regards,
