inter-org meeting response problem

How does Outlook 200X collate meeting request responses with the list of mandatory and optional

attendees

We have a strange issue in a cross-organization scenario where
1) user1 in org A sends a meeting request to user2 in org B, represented in org A as a Contact
2) when user1 receives the "accept" response from user2, in the tracking tab the original

"mandatory" attendee entry for user2 is not updated, but user2 is added to the list as an

"optional" attendee ! Furthermore, while the original entry for user2 has a correct Exchange

address, the added entry has a (correct) SMTP address that is not resolved as a X500 GAL address

A tool to crack the winmail.dat content (and more specifically, the meeting request/response

properties) would be appreciated, as well as a description of how the meeting response is supposed

to be looked up in the attendees list of the meeting organizer

Thanks

For a winmail.dat utility, try googling Fentun. As for the rest, have you
tried posting in an Exchange news group?

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to
the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.

After searching google.groups.com and finding no answer, Benoitm asked:
