Intellimouse 4

I bought the new Intellimouse Explorer Platinum 4, but
the software 5.0 wouldn´t work well. I tried it on two
systems with XP pro, one is with DirectX9 the other with
DirectX8, thats the only difference. The PC with the 9
Version wouldn´t work, the other very well. Maybe you can
fix the software as far as you can? When will I be able
to use the new patched software so I can use the
horizontal scrolling? That´s why I bought it, bu now I
uninstalled the driver because the software is very, very
bugy!!! :-( Otherwise I will sell the mouse I buy the
good old Logitech one...

Hi there,

If you check out the Microsoft Hardware newsgroup, you'll
see post after post after post about how problematic the
Intellipoint 5.0 software is. Interestingly enough (and
stupidly enough), Microsoft felt that the ability to
customize the buttons to whatever you want isn't
needed... they actually REMOVED functionallity from the
NEW drivers...

Go out and return this mouse. The horizontal scroll isn't
really worth the money you shelled out on it. Go get
yourself a good ol' Logitech MX500. The only thing that
the Logi drivers don't have is the ability to set program
specific button settings. Other than that, Logi is much
better than MS, also considering that the Logi optical
technology is better than the MS stuff.
