I update XP using auto update for windows and it gives me
the option to download a driver update for Intel
Processor Software Update January 27,2002.Everytime I
download the file it gives me a messge saying there was
an error and that the update was not completed. My
question is how do I solve this problem?

See if you have a C:\cabs directory and a folder that has the same name as
the update you're trying to install. If so, the download probably finished
and only the install failed. In that case all you have to do is run the exe
to complete the installation. If the download failed, you can download the
update and perform the install without using Windows Update. Go to the
download page, search for the correct download, and manually install it.
This is how we used to do it before Windows Update.

I have the same problem Mark has. The updater always wants me to
install the 'Intel processor software' update, but fails during
install.

Have seen a similar posting dated Feb. 16, 2004. Nothing to find at
Microsoft. There is no such download. Nothing on the web. Seems to be
a recent issue. Anybody having a clue?

General rule: Don't EVER download or apply device-specific *driver*
updates from Windows Update.
