Have you looked on Intel's website to verify this?
I dont see any mention of it at all. In fact thee's all kinds of stuff there
for the 925x and all of Decembers press releases make no mention of the 925
chipset or boards based on it.
Sounds like an tecno-urban myth to me.
It isn't, but at a long arm's reach it doesn't sound isn't particularly
interesting, either.
What it indicates to me is fabs are binning 80% or better to the faster
performance spec now, which is well above the level required to support simply
killing the original performance bin parts, after using a few months further
production to close supply contracts and provide for end-of-life buys...
