Hi,

I am running Windows XP SP2 with all current MS updates, hotfixes, etc, and
continuously receive the following error message after closing IE6 . . .

The instruction at "0x7e1f9b17" referenced memory at "0x7dc48960". The
memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program

.. . . does anyone know how to resolve the (apparent) problem associated with
this error message???

Feature Discussion that suggested disabling IE Add-ons, which I did and it
did not resolve the problem.

BTW, its rather odd that you would refer someone to the MS Discussion Groups
Home after they have posted to the same newsgroup(s) found here.

That mean you may have a memory leak or a corrupt application causing this.
I don't know if you done the procedure correctly for the add-ons?.
Also scan for viruses on your machine or system restore to a stage where all
happy bunny??.

I cannot see any oddity in that, where I sent is where similar users like
you have the same exact problem, you need to read and digest the info,
instead of seeing oddity, be optimistic and see solution!.

Finally, try to test your memory Sticks (RAM) they may be faulty.

Ad-Aware and SpyBot, and the problem remains.

regularly while I attempt to resolve this IE6 issue) and found a new
Information listing . . .

.. . . this is the 1st time that this has appeared. It may coincide with
another poster's recommendation that I uncheck "Enable third-party brower
extensions" and it may not. However, its also interesting that I do NOT
have "Block pop-ups" checked.

We may be getting closer to the solution here, but I still need your help.

I had a simliar issue before and found out that it was due to the yahoo
toolbar in the system. It doesn't matter if its actually enabled when your
in internet explorer or not, just the fact that its on the sytem to be able
to be used with it. Go to control panel > add/remove programs and uninstall
the yahoo toolbar if you have it. best of luck

On a separate issue, do you have any input regarding . . .

A tech support (idiot) clown from Startech.com insists that Window XP SP2
Device Manager / Ports (COM & LPT) / PCI Serial Port Properties should have
a tab for "Data Rate" and an option to "Detect Clock Frequency" but I cannot
find either.

I have all currently available MS updates, hotfixes, patches, etc.

When I first loaded Windows XP SP2, I chose to use Classic windows over XP
windows and disabled Themes to ensure it. Would this choice eliminate the
Data Rate tab and its various options? If so, when I roll back to XP
windows, this tab does not appear.

Any thoughts?
