It's all very well explained in Outlook's Help Files. Just type in Instant
Messaging.

this infobar in Outlook appears.

Russ, Is Instant Messaging capability available in Outlook 2000? IF so is it
an Add-On or ? I see nothing in Tools | Options | Other and a search for
"Instant Messaging"/"Instant Message" results in nothing other than sending
emails as far as I've been able to ascertain. Am I just missing the obvious?
Or is this perhaps only available IF you're using Exchange rather than
Internet Only version or ?

TIA

No. It was added in Outlook 2002. IMHO, you're not missing much.
