InstallWwin2k-250gbHD-different

I know this is a FAQ, and I know about MS's knowledgebase article about
changing the registry.

Here's my situation. I want to dual-boot XP and Win2k, each OS on its own
partition (the 250gb HD split in half, approx 117gb each). I installed XP in
first partition just fine, and XP recognizes the full "unallocted space"
that I intended to install win2k in.

Now, I go to install win2k in second partition.....win2k setup gets to the
point where you either create a partition or use the entire space
available........the screen says that the unallocted space is ~117gb (so
bios sees it all), but when I say go ahead, it makes a an approx 13900 gb
partition. So, win2k setup still only sees the 137gb.

I had thought I could get around that because I had slipstreamed sp4 with my
win2k install thinking that would allow me to do it, but it didn't.

Can I do what I want to do at all? Or is the only way to install win2k
first on the first partition, and then XP on the second partition?
(I wanted XP on the first, because the win2k partition was to be for
testing, and will be blown away and reinstalled periodically).

Thanks

Does it work properly if you create and format the partition from your
Windows XP installation?

Even with a slipstreamed Windows 2000 CD, the setup program is still
restricted to 137GB.

program is still restricted to 137GB.

Do you know why that is so?

Does the same limit apply to XP as well?

Thanks to all who answered, I had decided to leave my old (old!) 120gb HD in as
a 2nd drive.....I don't need it, but then again might as well be in 'puter as on
the shelf.

I installed xp on first (approx half) partition of the 250gb drive, and left the
second one upartitioned for now, then installed win2k on the second physical
drive. I went ahead and split the 250gb, leaving it at 250 just seemed
'wrong'..don't ask me to explain, just a holdover of thinking I guess.

I'll leave the 2nd partition on the 250gb for a "common" data storage drive.

Anyways, finally back up with both OS's installed.
