Installing XP to a different machine... ?

Matt

Hi, I have Win XP Pro installed on a PC which has a failed hard drive.

I have purchased a new PC, with Win XP Home as standard - and intend
replacing the hard drive in the failed machine and then restoring that
machine to it's original operating system, (Win Me).

Can I ask whether I can install the Win XP Pro on my new PC - and
successfully 'activate' it ?

Many thanks in advance for your kind help.

Regards

Matt James

Greetings --

Assuming a retail license (OEM licenses are not transferable),
simply remove WinXP from the computer it is currently on, and install
it onto the new one. If it's been more than 120 days since you last
activated that specific Product Key, you'll most likely be able to
activate via the Internet without problem. If it's been less, you
might have to make a 5 minute phone call.

Here are the facts pertaining to activation:

Hi Matt,

Your XP upgrade will do a clean install if you want. There is no need to
install ME. If you boot from the XP CD and proceed to install, at some point
during installation you will be prompted to insert the ME disk to prove
qualification for the install. You may need to call MS to activate. You will
be provided a number to call in the activation process. It is a painless
ordeal that takes about 5 minutes. Just tell them that your old PC bit the
dust and you are installing on a new one.

Set your BIOS to 1st boot from CD and then follow the instructions from the
