Installing XP problem

Hi all,
a friend of mine has a problem with XPpro instalation. He wanted to format
C: and than clean install XP. Unfortunatelly not knowing how to get to dos
and enter format C: he started the setup of Win XP and choosed Repair.
Somehow he got the dos menu and entered format C: which completed normally.
After that he started normal clean install of Win XP from the cd-rom.
Installed graphical adapter driver and all other drivers,
but after every restart the system is asking to insert BOOT CD and start
install once again. When the install cd is inserted it start the XP normally
.. WHY?
What can be done to solve this ? In BIOS First boot device is Floppy ,
Secondary is CD-ROM.
Was the mistake done when he choosed to Repair the instalation and formated
C after or the format wasn't done properly?
Help any answer is welcome
Thnx

It's hard to say exactly what went wrong, but if I were you I'd just start
over, build the thing from scratch. Start by booting to the CD, remove all
partitions, recreate them (it) however you like, format the system
partition, and go from there. If things still act strange after you've done
all that, *then* I might start thinking that there are deeper issues (such
as screwy BIOS or something).

He did it the very hard way.
Simply boot to the Windows XP CD and follow prompts for a Clean
Installation.
There will be partitioning options as well as formatting options.
Unless there is something you need to keep, delete all partitions.

I'm wandering why if in BIOS is choosed that Floppy is Primary boot and
CDROM Secondary and I have win98 boot diskette in a: drive (tried to boot to
DOS to format the C: drive that way) it starts to boot from a cd???

That's what he did. Booted from the cd and than got the option to format and
formated the C: drive. The format went ok, but than ... bang need a boot cd
after restart. I think we have to do it again from the scratch.

There are 2 options at the begining one is Repair and one is Clean Install ,
am'I right and that's it? Have to choose the Clean Install and Win will be
installed over the old ones, right? Does this means that previous windows
are completely deleted (he doesn't have any valuable data on C:) or just
"repaired"?
I did this with w98 and w2k but I'm not familiar with XP.

It's possible that there's something wrong with the boot floppy -- if the
system can't find the boot files on the primary boot device, it'll move down
the list to the next one. In any case, you shouldn't be trying to boot to a
floppy -- just boot to the CD, delete and recreate the partitions, and
reformat them, all in the setup program. If you reformat the drive, there
won't be any previous installation left over -- you'll install a fresh,
clean copy of the OS.

A Clean Installation gets rid of EVERYTHING on that partition.
But unless there is a reason to do otherwise, delete the partitions.

Yes, everything will be completely deleted. See detailed step by step in the
link provided below.
You boot from the CD and do a clean install.
