I would like to format my hard drive and have a 'fresh start'. I have the XP
pro upgrade disk but I have lost my other windows (98) software. Is there ANY
way I can format my HD and re install XP using this disk?
Thanks.

You'll need to have a Microsoft Windows 95/98/ME/2000
installation CD if you plan on a clean install using an Upgrade
Version of Windows XP. Otherwise, you'll need to purchase a
"Full Version" since you'll have no proof of ownership of a
previous version of Windows that qualifies.

Hi

If you have an 'upgrade' XP CD, you'll need a CD from a previous version of
Windows to install XP. Have you got a Windows 95 CD?

Beg or Buy an old Windows 95/98/ME CD or even an NT 4.0 Workstation CD from someone to serve as a qualifying product when prompted during installation.

Along this thread, will a win98 upgrade cd qualify to upgrade to XP?? or a
Win 95 upgrade?
Thx

Yes they will. 95 you cannot upgrade over, but the CD is accepted as
evidence if doing a clean install.

What does not work is many OEM Recovery or restore CDs, which just have
an image of the Win98, not a win98 folder of cab files. Those you need
to restore, then run the upgrade from them
