for my motheroard suggest that my mother board is defective. i want to
replace my motherboard with the exact same one. After reading in the forums,
it suggest that i reinstall my OS. before i do anything i want to know if i
can still can do a clean install using my original cd key of XP pro. its a
Oem version. The only hardware i am changing is my motherboard since its the
culprit. thanks in advance.

If the OEM supplier is swapping out the mobo then yes.
However if its a generic OEM cd then you may have to use phone activation

You actually should not have any problems since you are replacing your MOBO
with the exact same one XP should not even need a repair installation.
Even the OEM version that you have should not need a repair not a
reinstallation................The HAL.dll file will see exactly the same
parts.
Worst case scenario would be a reinstall and a quick phone call with an
explanation would reactivate XP

Not necessarily. Identical motherboard (and OEM license requirements) aside,
depending on how long ago the original activation was, if it was long enough
(don't know the exact time frame) you can do a new install on a completely
different set of hardware and it will activate online with no problems.

Windows lore has that to be 120 days (4 months), but at
least one MVP has derided that as myth. The time span
seems to be about that, though.
