There's no good way, I'm afraid. NT is a qualifying product for an XP
upgrade, but XP won't upgrade an NT system. What that means is that
you have to delete NT from your disk, then install XP clean. If you're
using the upgrade version of XP, it will ask you for proof of a
qualifying product. At that point you stick the NT CD into the drive,
and the installation will continue.

Before starting this, go to the manufacturer's web site and make SURE
that your laptop model will handle XP. You may have to download
XP-compatible drivers for some of the laptop's equipment.
