Can this be done? I tried it the other day - I have this Packard Bell
pc that had 98 on it, which I wiped to get round Windows Protection
errors only to find I didn't have the code number to type in when I re-
installed it - but it didn't work. some files missing apparently. Or
is there a way I could get the installation serial number from a file
in a laptop which the same Windows 98 CD is installed on?

Thanks.

What are your asking.
1 Will Windows XP install on the computer?
That would require a lot of details about the computer.
But in general, I would not expect the computer to be fast enough or have enough RAM.
2. Can you pirate the windows 98 back on to the machine? (Same 98 CD on two machines)
I would not advertise that fact.

There may be many hardware items not compatible with XP. Check them first.
(hardware and drivers)

Packard Bell Windows 95 machine would not be suitable for Windows XP.
Actually a PB Win95 box isn't suitable for anything in my book.

dont know if you still need any help on this.i mess with a lot of computers.i
was trying to install xp on a dell..and i have had this happen before..xp has
a lot of crap on the cd and you need a fast cd player.the cd reader player
was tired out on this dell ..so i replaced it with a new faster one and there
was no problem..installing xp.but you do need the key code.i think there are
some gost programs.that might just do it for you..mirror the hard drive.to a
secound one..

Thanks, but I never needed any help on this. The idea is to start with
suitable hardware in the first place.
