I am in the process of fixing a neighbors computer where they had a
bootlegged version of XP Pro on it. They give me a new XP Home disk they
bought . Before I wipe out their hard drive is there a way to install the XP
home and save the Docs on that machine?
Thanks in advance.

If you are going to waste the disk space of a second installation, would you
be better off Moving the my documents and other data to the seperate
partition.
I would burn a disk and just reformat

Yes, but that creates a parallel, dual-boot situation, with both
operating systems installed. I assumed (perhaps incorrectly) that that
was not what he wanted. I assumed that he wanted to be rid of his
bootleg version, and that's why he bought XP Home.

No I assumed that he wanted to rid the PC of the old bootleg WinXP as
well. I was somewhat asking for my own knowledge, again, not having done
an install of the Home version. I was assuming you could subsequently
edit the boot.ini file thru msconfig and just delete the Windows folder
of the original installation.
