Installing XP Home Edition on New Hard Drive

System is an AMD 900 Mhz on Abit KT-7 Motherboard.
When I set the bios to boot on the cd drive or the floppy drive it ignors it
and trys to boot on the Hard Drive.

So,I put the new hard drive in another computer (Pentium 4) and installed
operating system. I then put the hard drive in the AMD computer but when I
boot up I get an error, cannot recognize the operating system.

The old hard drive (too small) will still boot up.
Any ideas?

Check cable connections? Check CD Rom IDE cable for damage? You're sure the
boot order is correct in bios? it doesn't come up with a message along the
lines of "Press any key to boot from CD" before going back to the hard disk?

Dude,
Each Windows install is specific to the motherboard, processor, memory.
You can't take a hard drive from one system and expect it to boot in another!
Reformat and reinstall!

I thought that might be the case.
I can't get the bios to boot on the cd drive so I can do the install
That is why I tried to do the install on another computer.
It was worth a try.
I guess its time to update my motherboard & cpu.
Thanks

Robert Moir, I am hoping you might be able to help me. I've just installed
a new HD on my computer and it does not recognize my A: drive. Also my CDROM
just all of a sudden stopped loading automatically. Yes, I am a novice, but
learn very quickly. HELP!
Thanks,
Clarks
