im trying to install xp on my machine, it used to have a 40gb, but ive got a
spare 80gb.

i unplugged the old 40gb, plugged in the spare 80gb, after booting from xp
cd, the setup starts, then black screen, just before the option to format.

xp CD works fine on other systems, HDD works fine on other systems, i even
put it back in another system, formmated, and tried again.

even trying to format the original 40gb HDD, same problem. it shouldnt be a
monitar problem, becuase it shows during bios.

apart from the HDD, the computer is barebones neway.

after trying today, it crashes at same point with, a different XP cd, and by
using boot floppys instead of a bootable cd.

i can't find any help anywhere else, please any help would be good help.

you have missintrepreted my problem, its druing a fresh install of windows
XP, not a startup, and ther is not a problem with grapics adaptor, becuase
ive looked into it.

If you have an onboard video adapter, then make sure
it is properly enabled in the BIOS. If you installed an
AGP video card, disable the onboard video in the BIOS
and make sure AGP support is enabled. Also, make
sure you have attached the monitor to the proper
video output port.
