Installing WinXp when Win2000 is installed

I'm about to change OS from Win2000 to WinXP, HE. During the startup process
to install XP I get a message that I should not install 2 OS on the same
partition. I understand that so I want to know how to get around this. Can I
uninstall Win2000 completely or should I format the drive (C:\), and if so
what format command shall I use? F-disk??

If you don't have unpartitioned space on your hard drive, it's better not
install the second OS. You could format the partition on which is installed
your current OS (you'll lose everithing in that partition) and then make two
partitions in this unpartitioned space. If so, install first Windows 2000
and then XP. If you decide to do that, you will be able to do it by booting
up with XP CD in the drive.

Thanks. My intention is to completely uninstall Win2000 and replace it with
XP. I do not want to have both OS on the computer. I have backed up the
files I want to keep on a second harddrive on the computer. So what do tou
suggest me to do and how to do it properly.

Just boot with the XP cd...you will be given the option to format the drive
prior to installing XP

Hi!
That's what I thought too. I booted with the XP cd and it gives the option
to delete the partition. Does that mean formatting the drive??

Win2K can be upgraded to WinXP Pro, but not to WinXP Home. In your
case, a clean installation is required.

Simply boot from the WinXP Home installation CD. You'll be offered
the opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of the
installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of boot
devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)

Well, it's not the same thing, but it'll get you to the same place.

If you decline the choice of deleting the partition, you should
subsequently be given the choice of formatting the partition or not. If
you do elect to delete the partition, you will then be given the
opportunity to create a new partition, and then format it. Either way,
you end up with a pristine partition on which to install WinXP Home.
