You formatted a brand-new hard drive, and installed Windows XP from its own
legal disk, and you are getting references to a website hosting service??

Let me see if I understand what's happening:
You are installing XP from a CD and you use XP to format/repartition the
drive. The setup copies the files but upon reboot it gives you the error
message rather than continuing with setup?

If this is the case, it is similar to what happened with a computer I was
building. Somehow it seemed to "lose" the hard drive after copying files to
it. In this particular case, I only put the one hard drive in, ran the
Maxtor utility to create a drive overlay and format the drive, booted from
the CD and ran install again.

Another thing that can cause this behavior is a SATA or SCSI drive that
needs RAID drivers, in which case you need to use the function key (sorry,
can't remember which one, F5 or F6 I think) during the setup to have it load
drivers from a diskette.

:
I am having problems changing Hard drives. I have a 1.8g p4 chip on an
Abit mobo. I have no hd attached now, but had a 40g working sporadically.
It is one of several xtra computers, and I want to set it uplike TiVo. I
have the ATI All In One Radeon 64mb agp card, a dvd writer, cdrw writer,
256mn pc ddr ram, with plenty more ram in insert in other slot if necessary,
plus the requisite BeYond TV 3 Snapstream software in the case now. 1st I
tried puting in a 13g Maxtor, and then a 60g samsung. I have tried putting
in either one, just one at a time, and then running format/disk utilities
from the mfg. problems. I have also tried a clean boot from the A promt,
fdisk and format it myself, trying a windows 98se, and then an xp pro os disk
from some of my other machines. I can get both disks formated but then have
the problem of after installing the setup files, it reboots and then crashes.
I keep clearing the Bios, have tried setup defaults, etc. I have done this
with each hd, and the same thing happens with each, no matter what os I use,
or hd. I went out today and boought a 160gig hd and want to put it in my
main machine, take out the 80gig hd, and then put it in the Abit mobo. I
thought that maybe one of those other hd's are bad. How should I proceed?
Load xp on the new 160g, then take the 80gig maxtor, wipe it, fdisk, then
reformatt, then put on 98se on? The Abit is not even six months old. I
have also changed controllers? Will the 160 gig work without having to
reflash my bios, to go from 24 bit to 48 bit whatever to show that it really
is 160g instead of being going over the 137gaig size factor with xp or 98se?
I know that this is a lot of questions to ask all at once, but I will be
patient, hopefullyif somebody out there has ever had this type of problem
uprading or changiong hd's, you will have the same patience replying. I am
afraid to put the 160 on my mainboard and screw everything up, becase my
primary machine works fine. Thank anybody for replying. ken
