Recently, I purchased a DVD-RW drive and installed it myself. In order to
make it operable for storage, do I need to install Windows XP on it? If so,
how do I do it? Thanks in advance!

Scotty, look into Nero or Ahead Dvd writing software. Do a google search
for each. You don't need to install WinXP on it.

No you don't need to download Xp in the second Hard drive if you are using
that drive as storage drive...now after manually installing the drive you
need to do something else..

start - run - type or copy/paste: compmgmt.msc (press
enter)

now the Computer management windows will open, here look for "disk
management'', when you click here you will see the two drives : C drive
healthy(system) and the second drive (unalocated)....click the second drive
....right click the space "unalocated" and select new partition....follow the
instructions of the wizard creating a NFTS parttion, enter the information,
and format.. when you finish now you can use that drive....

There appears to be some confusion in this thread.
A DVD-RW drive is not a hard drive.

Thanks for your help everyone! Ron, thanks for the comment. When I hit "My
Computer," I was looking at the drive below my other hard drive. The "DVD-RW
is my "D" drive, whereas my secondary (hard) drive has been designated "F."

With that said, am I able to load/store games (and other items) on my "F"
drive and play them later? Bear with me, as this is new territory with having
and working 2 hard drives. Thanks again!

Certainly -
When you are saving something choose the new drive as the destination.
(The window pops up and asks if you wish to save
and you ussually would just click yes -
but now make sure you change the default location to your new drive - -
click the browse button and navigate to it)

I got Nero (I believe 6.6) on Amazon.com for $5.

It's an amazing piece of s/w, burns not only CDs but DVDs. Now I just
need to get a DVD burner!

(that is, the same software is good for both your CD burner AND your
DVD burner)

But it works VERY nicely with my 2 CD burners!

Good luck!

Regardless of your drive designators (C D F G H Q)
(which will change from time to time, if you can turn them on/off)

You can LOAD / INSTALL any software / game you like to a HARD DRIVE.
(that would mean your C: currently or your F: currently, if I
understand your current Hard Drive designators correctly)

You COULD use your DVD drive for game playing,
IF
you installed the game from the DVD drive,
and
IF
you designated the DVD drive as "play the game from the DVD drive"
WHEN YOU INSTALLED the GAME.

because DVD drives
WILL DOUBLE as CD drives (but not as CD BURNERS).

I hope that clears up any confusion.

I actually had a "computer programmer technician" tell me awhile
back that I could burn DVDs (movies) with my CD burner because Nero
works both with CDs and with DVDS".

Ridiculous! While the Nero software is "double-duty" (works with
both CD burners and with DVD burners), the drives are NOT NECESSARILY
double-duty. Which is why DVD/CD burners are sold.
